Sustainability

At Australian Venue Co, we are working towards ambitious goals to improve the sustainability of our venues across Australia.

Our Sustainability Pillars

We’re working on sustainability initiatives across five key areas, led by our dedicated Sustainability Project Manager.

Reducing energy usage & creating an energy-conscious culture.

Introducing organic waste management and working towards diverting 50%+ of our waste from landfill.

Eliminating single use plastics from our venues and replacing every single use item for our customers with a compostable alternative

Current Projects

We’re exploring ways we can reduce waste, re-use and recycle in our venues and offices every day to help us tread more gently on the planet.

LED Lighting Upgrade

We’re rolling out LED lighting at our venues across Australia in 2022. LED lights are significantly more energy efficient and with lower carbon emissions than traditional fluorescent lighting.

We are currently rolling out LED lighting throughout our Victorian venues, which is expected to be completed by March 1, 2022.

Benefits of LED Lighting:

  • LED lights are up to 80% more energy efficient than traditional lighting. 95% of the energy from LEDs is converted into light, with only 5% wasted as heat. Traditional fluorescent lights convert only 5% of energy into light, and wastes 95% of energy as heat
  • LED lights last 6x longer than fluorescent lights. This means we can use fewer lights, and therefore fewer resources, creating less emissions
  • LED lights use much less power than fluorescent lights to achieve the same result
  • Less LED lights are required to light a space because they have better quality of light distribution

Organic Waste Management

Our goal is to divert more than 50% of waste away from landfill. We’ll achieve this by introducing organic waste bins at our venues & training our staff on organic waste management. We aim to introduce organic waste management to 100% of our venues by the end of 2022.

This means that we can compost a greater volume of our waste, such as food waste and compostable single use products such as napkins, straws and more.

We are currently rolling out Organic Waste Management across Victoria.

Plant-based Options

We’re dialling up the number of plant based menu options on our menus. Meat-free alternatives are now widely available for two of our most popular pub classics: our Eggplant Parmas & Beyond Burgers have been an instant hit!

We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
